Dorothy Ann Hughes

Dorothy Ann Hughes was born on June 19, 1928, in Scio, Oregon to Henry and Magdalen (Schneider) Minten. She grew up in Stayton, Oregon and would attend Saint Mary’s Catholic School. Dorothy met Edward Hughes through school and when he enlisted in the Army, they stayed in touch. The two would marry on July 17, 1947, in Stayton, Oregon after Edward was honorably discharged. They would raise their family in Stayton where they would live for 72 years. Dorothy was primarily a homemaker who took pride in raising her family, but later in life, she would work for Wilsons Hatchery and then Paris Woolen Mills.  When she was younger, she worked on the Minten Family Farm. In her spare time, she enjoyed baking/ cooking, and gardening. She also enjoyed canning which she would often turn into a family event. Dorothy was loving and caring and was very positive. She always had a smile on her face. Her faith and her family were the most important things to her, and she was also a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Church. Dorothy passed away on August 3, 2021, in Salem, Oregon at the age of 93. She was preceded in passing by her husband, Edward; parents, Henry and Magdalen; and siblings, Juanita, Edward, Cletus, Donny, Bernie, and Louise. She is survived by her children, Linda Maisel, Kathy Hughes (Norman), Steve Hughes (Wanda), Norm Hughes (Cheryl); 6 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and siblings, Allen, Patty and MaryAnn. A time for Visitation will take place from 5-7 PM on Sunday August 15th at Weddle Funeral Service in Stayton, Oregon. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, August 16, 2021, at 11am at Immaculate Conception Parish in Stayton. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Stayton.
