Don Nolan Benslay June 14, 1931 – December 24, 2016 Formerly of Stayton, OR Don Nolan Benslay, 85, passed away early in the morning of December 24th in Salem. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Charles and Mary Benslay. Don was married to Mary Lea Mullins on Nov 11, 1952 in Coos Bay, OR. He served in the US Army as a Corporal during the Korean Conflict. Don attended Oregon State University and received his Bachelor and Master degrees in Pharmacology and was a member of the Kappa Psi Pharmaceutical fraternity. He worked as a Pharmacologist in Pharmaceutical Research for the Eli Lilly Company in Indianapolis for 31 years before retiring in 2002. Don and Mary Lea then moved to Stayton. Don had a deep faith in God and very much enjoyed getting to all the meetings he could, and helping in whatever way he could. He also enjoyed taking care of his family; enjoyed computers, and reading, especially about political issues. In addition to his beloved wife Mary Lea, Don is survived by his children, Marian and Roger Johnson of Maricopa, AZ, Charles and Liza Benslay of Bremerton, WA, David and Monthira Benslay of Indianapolis, IN, Garrett and Lisa Benslay of Kingford, CA. He’s also survived by grandchildren who were dear to him; Radley and Matthew, Glenn, Chelsea and Andrew, and Bree-elle; and also by 2 great-grandchildren. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard, and his sisters Charlene, Marian, and Lois. Don will be buried in the Willamette National Cemetery in Portland. Memorials may be made to the Oregon State Pharmacy School. Arrangements entrusted to Weddle Funeral Services.
