Ruby was 97 years young when she left this world on Nov 28, and was greeted at heaven’s gate by the Lord and husband. She was born in Liberal Kansas to Glenn and Hattie Pennington and she was 4th of 5 siblings. The family moved to Oregon when she was a teenager settling in the Victor Point area, where she graduated from Silverton High School. In 1941 she met Kenneth Boswell and they were married in September prior to him leaving for war. She joined him in Panama where they lived until the end of the war. They returned to Oregon and lived in logging camps in Central Oregon, as Kenneth as a logger. They settled in Sisters, and then moved to Aumsville. In 1956 Dorothy was born, 1958 Patricia came along. In 1959 they all moved to Sublimity and in 1961 Roger was born. Ruby was a hard worker her entire life. She had seen the struggles growing up and worked hard to make life better for her family. She was a great homemaker, cook, baker, canning, flower gardens which she loved, large vegetable gardens, raising all their own meat and processing it. She was a gifted seamstress making clothes for the family and later in life made may quilts. She loved to hunt, fish, camp, and spending time with family and friends. She was active in the community being the President of the PTA at Sublimity Grade School for many years and the Den Leader to her daughters Girl Scouts Troop. Ruby lived a full and wonderful life and lived and remained in her home until the last 6 weeks of her life when she had to leave. She is preceded in death by her parents Glenn and Hattie Pennington, husband Kenneth of 53 years, 1 sister, 2 brothers, 1 Granddaughter. She is survived by brother; Gene Pennington of Lebanon, Children; Dorothy (Jary) Johnson Salem, Patricia (Dan) Bartosz of Turner, Roger (Cecilia) Boswell of Salem, 9 Grandchildren, and 13 Great Grandchildren. The family would personally like to thank Serenity Hospice and Four Seasons Memory Care for all the wonderful love and care that was provided to Mom during her last few weeks.

Their devotion was exceptional. In lieu of flowers please donate to Serenity Hospice or the Salem Friends of Felines.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 11am at Weddle Funeral Chapel.

Marion Erma Dorothy – Mill City

Marion Erma Schwartz Dorothy, 97, Sublimity, died Tue. Nov. 7, 2017 at Marian Estates.

A Celebration Of Life Service will be held Sat. Dec. 2, 2017 @ 2 pm at the Mill City Presbyterian Church, 236 SW Broadway St. in Mill City, with Pastor Carol Swanson officiating.

Private Cremation Rites have been held and Inurnment will be held at the Fairview Cemetery at a later date.

Marion Erma Schwartz Dorothy was born Feb. 8, 1920 in Wolsey, SD. to Henry Louis and Clara Klinger Schwartz. She was raised and educated in South Dakota with her older sister, Ella. She then attended the General Beadle College at Madison, SD and began teaching at Wolsey. She moved to Vernonia, OR in 1945 with one of her college friends and taught school there for 4 years. In 1949 she moved to Mill City, OR and continued her teaching career there.

Marion was united in marriage to Raymond Gale Dorothy on June 23, 1951 in Vancouver, Wa. In 1954 they moved to The Dalles, Or. where their daughter, Susan was born and two years later they moved to Pierre, SD where she taught school. In 1965 they made their home in Mill City where she worked in Gates and Mill City as a teacher until she retired in 1983.

Among her personal interests she enjoyed sewing, and collecting coins and antiques. Marion loved spending time with her granddaughter and her great grandchildren. Marion was an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Mill City. She was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Historical Assoc.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 2015 and her sister, Ella.

Survivors include her daughter, Susan Ryan of Salem, Or., her granddaughter and husband, Heather and Randy Thomas, great-grandchildren; Jordan, Gabriel, and Keira Lanham, and Kendall Thomas.

The family suggests remembrances may be contributions made to the charity of ones choice in Marion’s memory.

Don passed away peacefully at his home with his wife and son by his side. He was born in 1927 on the family farm at Union Hill, Oregon. Don worked on the family farm with his father from the time he was five years old until his retirement in 1983. He was recognized as Marion County Tree Farmer of the Year in 1979. He continued to farm with his son Marshall both in timber and grass seed.
Don married his childhood sweetheart, Ann Louise, and they have been happily married for 68 years. He will be missed by his family and friends for his great sense of humor, amusing storytelling and generosity of spirit. He excelled in trapshooting and was an avid hunter.
Don is survived by his wife Ann Louise, his son Marshall (Jessie), daughters Debbie (Bob), Michele (Dennis) and Tami (Mike) as well as 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday October 21st at 1:00 PM at Weddle Funeral Services, Stayton, Oregon.
Charitable gifts in Don’s name can be given to the Shriner’s Hospital Portland or Union Hill Cemetery.

Kathleen (O’Mara) Peerenboom, 86, died peacefully at home on October 6, 2017. Kathleen grew up in Tigard, Oregon, and moved to Salem upon graduating from Tigard High School, to work for the State of Oregon. Soon thereafter she met Raymond Peerenboom and the two were married September 1, 1951. She eventually left working for the state to work as a recording secretary for such groups as Oregon State Employees Association and Oregon Employees Federal Credit Union so that she could work from home and spend more time with her family.

Kathy was a lover of the arts, particularly music, and a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a frequent volunteer at St. Joseph School and Sacred Heart Academy while her children attended the schools and was active in her sorority as well as alumni functions for both her and her husband. She loved to bake and frequently did so for anyone with whom she came in contact. Later in life Kathy sang in her church choir as well as Festival Chorale of Oregon, having the opportunity to tour such places as Carnegie Hall and Western Europe with FCO.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond. Among her survivors are her sister Teresa; her children Sharon, Karen, Mike and Jim; and her grandsons Ryan, Terry, Trent and Cameron. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salem, October 14 at 10:30 am. Interment to take place at St. Barbara Cemetery, Salem. Donations can be made to Salem Friends of Felines in her honor.

Brenda Sue (Erwin) Carmen was born on March 2, 1949 in Bakersfield, CA.   The daughter of Mitchell and Bessie Erwin.  She passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on Saturday, September 23rd.  She was 68 years of age.  Brenda traveled in her younger years but made Salem her home for the last 50 years.  She had worked as a C.N.A. and for medical transport.  Her goal was to provide loving care for the elderly.  She enjoyed puzzles, history, politics and being a grandmother, Zelda, casinos, crocheting and watching FOX news.  Brenda was a proud grandmother and loved her grandchildren more than anything in the world.  She was honest and had strong opinions about most things in life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved sisters, Dottie, Joanne and Stella.  She is survived by her children, Joe Erwin, John Hayward, Jeffery Hayward, Jessie Vasquez and Nonnie Gore; brothers and sisters, Carter, David, Mitch, Marlene, Darlene, John, Frank and Pearl; grandchildren, Cayden Vasquez, Hadlee Vasquez, Jessalyn Vasquez, Joe Austin Ramirez, Amelia Angst, Zayleigh Emerson.  Visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 29th at 1:00 pm at Weddle Funeral Chapel.  Funeral Service will follow at 2:00 pm also at Weddle Funeral Chapel. Maria (Mary) Reyes was born in Colorado City, Texas to Marcelino and Ernestina (Silva) Hernandez.

  She was the eldest and longest living of 12 children. She was preceded in death by one son, Tony Reyes in 1993.

 She and husband, Felix Reyes of 56 years, raised nine children. They have 22 grand children, 34 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.
Rosary will be Wednesday 6:00 PM at The Immaculate Conception church and  funeral service on Thursday at 11:00 AM.

Internment will be at St. Mary’s Catholic cemetery Stayton, Oregon.

Wayne W. Gilbert Sr. – Aumsville, OR

Wayne was born in Carstairs, Alberta, Canada to William and Nellie May Gilbert. The family moved to Aumsville in 1941. Wayne graduated from Aumsville High School in 1946 and attended 1 year at Oregon College of Education (WOU). He married Patricia Tallmon on June 18, 1948, and together they raised two children. Wayne worked at the local cannery during WWII and as a substitute rural mail carrier from 1952 to 1954, but spent most of his life farming. After he retired from farming in 1993, he devoted his time to the Lone Oak Cemetery until 2016. Wayne was involved with the Grange, Masons, Eastern Star, Oddfellows, Rebekahs, and Shriners. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Stayton as well as the local cannery, now Norpac. He enjoyed farming, reading, yardwork, sports, and most of all his family.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife Patricia; his son Wayne William Gilbert Jr; son-in-law David Paul Walczyk; and siblings Claude William Gilbert, Marion May Steele, and Irene Mattie Gilbert. He is survived by his daughter Sandra Elaine Walczyk; grandchildren Jason Donavan Gilbert, Jessica (Kevin Parker)Deanne Gilbert, Andrea (Ken) Elaine Naumann, and Alexander (Kate) Wayne Walczyk; and great-grandchildren Lola and William Naumann, and Cheyenne Allmond.

Graveside service on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lone Oak Cemetery in Stayton.

Lyons – Orville Earl Speer was born on December 10, 1932 in Newberg, Oregon. He was the eighth of twelve children born to John E. and Bessie (Olson) Speer. He has resided in Lyons, OR for more than 50 years. He attended Cascade High School and served in the United States Army.

In 1959, he married Jean Luke and they had three children, Dawn, Laura, and John. Orville and Jean recently celebrated their 58th anniversary.

In 1995, after 34 years, he retired from Frank Lumber Company. He loved to work in the garden and watch old movies on TV.

He is survived by his wife Jean, daughters Dawn Kinzel (Chuck), Laura Christensen (Jon), his son John, nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, three sisters, two brothers, and numerous beloved in-laws, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law Heidi Polly Speer and his great-grandson Benjamin Christensen.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017 from 1-4 pm at the Stayton Community Center, 400 W Virginia St, Stayton, OR 97383.

Ronald “Ron” Kubas died peacefully at home on July 31, 2017 in Albany, Oregon at the age of 70. Ron was born on December 14, 1946 to Henry and Emma Kubas in Dickinson, North Dakota. He was one of three children. In elementary school the family moved to Meridian, Idaho where Ron eventually met and married the love of his life, Lynda L. Reidle, on January 14, 1966. The couple moved to Spokane, Washington after a year, then back to Idaho, and ended up in Oregon in 1984 where they ultimately settled in Albany, Oregon. Ron and Lynda welcomed four daughters into their home. Ron will forever be remembered as a fun-loving and hard-working father. He worked for Trust Joist and owned J&R Motorcycle Shop as well as Ron Kubas Independent Contractor. A real jack of all trades. Ron was a part of Owynee Motorcycle Club and the sanctioned Ref of the AMA Association. His involvement in the club allowed him to set up and work the event where Evel Knievel jumped Snake River. Ron loved anything motorcycle! He also sponsored a family softball team “Fubar”. He enjoyed bowling, the outdoors, crafting, woodworking, and building or tinkering with just about anything! He spent as much time as he could with friends and family. Ron has achieved the World’s Best Husband, Loving Father, and Grandfather award! Ron is preceded in death by his parents Henry John Kubas and Emma Rose Kubas; as well as many aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife, Lynda Lee Kubas; daughters, Tamara Lynn (Larry) Craft, Tracy Ann Kubas-Floyd (Ryan), Tonya Rose Massingale (Jason), Tagen Lee (Mary) Johnson-Kubas; grandchildren, Cameron Henry Craft, Court Mitchell Craft, Jade Makenzie Floyd, Sage Mariaha Floyd, Dazja Renee Kubas, Daryian Roger Massingale, Jacob Alexander Kubas; and sisters Gean Klug, and Gerri Davis. Family will hold a private memorial service in Albany, Oregon. Ron’s interment will take place at Meridian Cemetery in Meridian, Idaho. Arrangements entrusted to Weddle Funeral Services.

Esther Ruth Ybarra – Sublimity, Oregon

Esther Ruth Ybarra was born on October 3, 1995 in Clackamas, Oregon to Ron and Teresa Suelzle. She was the firstborn child and grandchild in the family and was greatly loved. Esther passed away peacefully on Monday, July 24 at OHSU in Portland, OR.

Esther lived in Gresham, OR for the first year and a half of her life, and then in Estacada at Eagle Fern Camp for the next three years. The family returned to Gresham in 2000 when Esther was four and lived there for two and a half years. Esther attended kindergarten at Pleasant Valley Elementary School.

The family moved to Aumsville, OR in the summer of 2002. Esther attended Marion Elementary School for first and second grade, attended Aumsville Elementary for the third grade, was home schooled from the fourth through seventh grades, attended Cascade Junior High School in the 8th grade, Cascade High School her freshman year, Regis High School her sophomore year, and then returned to Cascade High School for her junior and senior year where she graduated from in 2014. Esther was an excellent student, member of the National Honor Society, and played volleyball, basketball and tennis. She played club volleyball all four years of high school and helped lead the Cascade volleyball team to a 2nd place finish in state her senior year. Esther also advanced to state in tennis all four years of high school and was the district doubles champion her senior year with her sister Elizabeth. Esther was also passionate about fitness and nutrition. Esther was honored as the Female Athlete of the Year in the Cascade School District her senior year.

Esther was actively involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Young Life, youth group activities at Bethel Baptist Church and serving at Eagle Fern Camp. Esther also loved traveling and had opportunities to travel to Hawaii, around the western states and across the country to the east coast. She loved spending time outside, on the beach, going for a walk or run and playing with her German Shepherd Keoni.

Esther signed a volleyball scholarship to Corban University in the fall of her senior year and began attending Corban University in 2014. She was attending school and playing volleyball at Corban until her cancer diagnosis in October when she was unable to continue with her studies and athletics.

Esther loved and trusted her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ more than anything else and wanted everyone to know and love Him as well. She desired for God to be glorified through every aspect of her life.

Esther met Jacob Ybarra at Corban University. Their first date was Valentine’s Day 2015, and their love and admiration for each other quickly grew. They became engaged on May 1, 2016 and were married on October 29, 2016 at Salem Heights Church. They were a beautiful young couple who had an amazing self-sacrificing love for each other. Their love was true. Esther was a home maker and house wife and assisted Jacob in his work with Aflac. She loved being Mrs. Jacob Ybarra. They made their residence in Sublimity. Jacob and Esther were actively involved in the ministries of Salem Heights Church and Solid Rock Church in Salem, OR.

Esther was preceded in death by their son Thaddeus Ybarra on June 26, 2017.

Esther is survived by her husband Jacob Ybarra, her father and mother Ron and Teresa Suelzle from Aumsville, her siblings Elizabeth, Daniel, Benjamin, Marilyn, Andrew and Rachel Suelzle, and her grandparents Bob and Darlene Suelzle from Gresham, OR and her father and mother-in-law Randy and Valerie Martindale from Fruitland, ID.

There is a Celebration of Life service for Esther at Corban University on Saturday, September 2nd at 12:00 PM in the Psalm Center. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend. She is so missed.

A visitation was held Monday, July 31, 2017 at Weddle Funeral Services Stayton, Oregon.
