Don passed away peacefully at his home with his wife and son by his side. He was born in 1927 on the family farm at Union Hill, Oregon. Don worked on the family farm with his father from the time he was five years old until his retirement in 1983. He was recognized as Marion County Tree Farmer of the Year in 1979. He continued to farm with his son Marshall both in timber and grass seed.
Don married his childhood sweetheart, Ann Louise, and they have been happily married for 68 years. He will be missed by his family and friends for his great sense of humor, amusing storytelling and generosity of spirit. He excelled in trapshooting and was an avid hunter.
Don is survived by his wife Ann Louise, his son Marshall (Jessie), daughters Debbie (Bob), Michele (Dennis) and Tami (Mike) as well as 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Saturday October 21st at 1:00 PM at Weddle Funeral Services, Stayton, Oregon.
Charitable gifts in Don’s name can be given to the Shriner’s Hospital Portland or Union Hill Cemetery.

Marie Fenwick, age 86, of Stayton, Oregon, passed away Saturday, September 30th at McKillops Residence in Sublimity, Oregon.
Marie was born in Beverly, Massachusetts, and graduated from Beverly High School class of 1948. Marie was the last surviving child of the late William and Leonne (St. Jean) Patch. Marie’s college education included a 4 year teaching degree. In 1954 she traveled from Massachusetts to Mesa, Arizona, where she taught 2nd grade for 7 years. In 1961, Marie left Arizona and drove the Alcan Highway to pursue her teaching career in the new state of Alaska. In 1965 she met her husband C.J. Fenwick at the PTA. C.J. was a widower with four children. They were married later that year. After retiring, Marie and C.J. moved to Stayton in 1975 where they spent many wonderful years in the home they built in the Kingston Jordan valley outside of Stayton.
Marie was a devoted lifelong Catholic and developed many close friendships with the people of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Stayton. She also enjoyed golf and her friendships with the ladies of the Santiam Golf course. Marie was an accomplished artist and enjoyed the time spent applying her craft in her art studio. Marie was fiercely independent, uncompromising in her faith, and devoted to love of family, friends, and country.
Along with her parents and husband, Marie was preceded in death by her two brothers, Richard and Robert Patch, and her stepdaughter Patricia Nolan. Marie is survived by three stepchildren, Mike (Lace) Fenwick, John (Linda) Fenwick, Kelly (Ric) Salata, and many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.
There will be a Prayer Vigil for Marie on Friday, October 13th at 10:00 a.m. followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at the Immaculate Conception Parish in Stayton, Oregon.

Maria (Mary) Reyes was born in Colorado City, Texas to Marcelino and Ernestina (Silva) Hernandez.  She was the eldest and longest living of 12 children.

She was preceded in death by one son, Tony Reyes in 1993.
She and husband, Felix Reyes of 56 years, raised nine children.

They have 22 grand children, 34 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandson.

Rosary will be Wednesday 6:00 PM at The Immaculate Conception church and  funeral service on Thursday at 11:00 AM. Internment will be at

St. Mary’s Catholic cemetery Stayton, Oregon.

Deborah L. Miles, 64, passed on August 24, 2017 into the arms of her Lord and Savior. Deborah was born on March 8, 1953 in Oregon City, Oregon to Mary and Robert Gilleran.  Raised in Stayton, Deborah graduated from Regis High School in 1971 and went on to become a Controller at BrucePac for 33 years. Debbie raised her four wonderful children; Lisa, Travis, Sara, and Jamie in the Stayton/Sublimity area. She later moved to the Silverton area where she stayed for eleven years before most recently moving to her dream home in Keizer. Debbie met the love of her life, Larry “Larold” Miles and they married in Salem on September 24, 2011. Debbie was heavily involved with the Sublimity Harvest Festival for many years. Her hobbies included quilting, baking, crafting, golfing, riding her jet ski, and spending time with family and friends. Debbie was preceded in death by her parents; Mary Block and Robert Gilleran, Step-father; Robert Block and oldest brother; Dennis Gilleran. She is survived by her loving husband; Larry Miles, Children; Lisa Blades of Salem, Travis (Valerie) Blades of Sublimity, Sara Powell of Salem, and Jamie (Ryan) Vohs of Sisters, Step-children; Hilary Willis and Evan Miles, Grandchildren; Lyndsey Lombard, Kyle Johnson, Seth Powell, Garrett Vohs, Trevor Blades, Haven Blades, Gracie Vohs, Luke Willis, Connor Willis, Bryce Bennett, Alexis Bennett, and Emmerson Willis. Brothers and sisters; Ann Gilleran of Salem, Timothy Gilleran of Sublimity, Maureen (Gary) Bochsler of Scio, Kate (Dick) Heuberger of Sublimity, Teresa (John) Nester of Belfair, WA, Julie Thibodeau of Redmond, Danette Falgout of Portland, Robert (Joanne) Block, Nadine (Don) Tuel of Dallas, Ray (Charlene) Block of Stayton, and Jody (Marty) Cade of LaPine. Debbie will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. Memorial Contributions can be made in Debbie’s name to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. A Memorial Mass will take place on Friday, September 8, 2017 at 10:00AM at St. Boniface Catholic Church. A reception will follow at the Santiam Golf Club, all are welcome to attend. Esther Ruth Ybarra – Sublimity, Oregon

Esther Ruth Ybarra was born on October 3, 1995 in Clackamas, Oregon to Ron and Teresa Suelzle. She was the firstborn child and grandchild in the family and was greatly loved. Esther passed away peacefully on Monday, July 24 at OHSU in Portland, OR.

Esther lived in Gresham, OR for the first year and a half of her life, and then in Estacada at Eagle Fern Camp for the next three years. The family returned to Gresham in 2000 when Esther was four and lived there for two and a half years. Esther attended kindergarten at Pleasant Valley Elementary School.

The family moved to Aumsville, OR in the summer of 2002. Esther attended Marion Elementary School for first and second grade, attended Aumsville Elementary for the third grade, was home schooled from the fourth through seventh grades, attended Cascade Junior High School in the 8th grade, Cascade High School her freshman year, Regis High School her sophomore year, and then returned to Cascade High School for her junior and senior year where she graduated from in 2014. Esther was an excellent student, member of the National Honor Society, and played volleyball, basketball and tennis. She played club volleyball all four years of high school and helped lead the Cascade volleyball team to a 2nd place finish in state her senior year. Esther also advanced to state in tennis all four years of high school and was the district doubles champion her senior year with her sister Elizabeth. Esther was also passionate about fitness and nutrition. Esther was honored as the Female Athlete of the Year in the Cascade School District her senior year.

Esther was actively involved in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Young Life, youth group activities at Bethel Baptist Church and serving at Eagle Fern Camp. Esther also loved traveling and had opportunities to travel to Hawaii, around the western states and across the country to the east coast. She loved spending time outside, on the beach, going for a walk or run and playing with her German Shepherd Keoni.

Esther signed a volleyball scholarship to Corban University in the fall of her senior year and began attending Corban University in 2014. She was attending school and playing volleyball at Corban until her cancer diagnosis in October when she was unable to continue with her studies and athletics.

Esther loved and trusted her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ more than anything else and wanted everyone to know and love Him as well. She desired for God to be glorified through every aspect of her life.

Esther met Jacob Ybarra at Corban University. Their first date was Valentine’s Day 2015, and their love and admiration for each other quickly grew. They became engaged on May 1, 2016 and were married on October 29, 2016 at Salem Heights Church. They were a beautiful young couple who had an amazing self-sacrificing love for each other. Their love was true. Esther was a home maker and house wife and assisted Jacob in his work with Aflac. She loved being Mrs. Jacob Ybarra. They made their residence in Sublimity. Jacob and Esther were actively involved in the ministries of Salem Heights Church and Solid Rock Church in Salem, OR.

Esther was preceded in death by their son Thaddeus Ybarra on June 26, 2017.

Esther is survived by her husband Jacob Ybarra, her father and mother Ron and Teresa Suelzle from Aumsville, her siblings Elizabeth, Daniel, Benjamin, Marilyn, Andrew and Rachel Suelzle, and her grandparents Bob and Darlene Suelzle from Gresham, OR and her father and mother-in-law Randy and Valerie Martindale from Fruitland, ID.

There is a Celebration of Life service for Esther at Corban University on Saturday, September 2nd at 12:00 PM in the Psalm Center. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend. She is so missed.

A visitation was held Monday, July 31, 2017 at Weddle Funeral Services Stayton, Oregon.

SHARON A. FRICHTL – Sublimity, OR

September 2, 1937 – July 6, 2017

Sharon was born in the historic Brown House, formerly Stayton Hospital, to Hubert and Mary Meyerhofer. She participated in drama during high school, graduating from St. Boniface in 1955. Sharon married Jim Frichtl on October 12, 1957, and together they raised their son Aaron. She started her career working for the State of Oregon before moving on to Bishop’s Clothing Store in Salem. Sharon later worked as a teller for First National Bank and then for Home Federal Savings, both in Stayton. She moved on from there to work at The Stayton Mail as well as Our Town, which she was part owner/founder of. She truly cared about her clients in advertising, and it showed. Sharon enjoyed shopping and gardening and was a fun-loving person. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by so many.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Ted and Andrew. She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Jim, her son Aaron, her grandson Zalen, and her brother David. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, Jul 23, 2017, at 4:00 p.m. at the Stayton Seventh-day Adventist Church on Fern Ridge Road. Arrangements entrusted to Weddle funeral Services. Virginia was born in Los Angeles, California, to Irving and Cedle Grant. She married Virgil Fleenor and they served the Lord as missionaries for 40 years. Virginia was preceded in death by her children Dana and John. She is survived by her husband; sons Stephen (Carol) and Joe; and daughters Julia, Grace, and Laurie.

You shall never die. Jesus said: “I am the resurrection and the life.”

James “Jim” B. Glenn – Sublimity, OR

James “Jim” Benton spent his last 2 weeks under hospice care at the home he has shared with his wife since 1964. Jim was born in Greenfield, Missouri to George and Clara Glenn. He played defensive end on the Greenfield High School winning team at the Missouri Ozark Bowl, graduating in 1949. Jim was a SSGT with the Air Force during the Korean conflict from 1951-1955 and was stationed in Germany. On June 12, 1955, he married Lola Jean Whitley in Libby, Montana. They moved to the Stayton area in 1957. He received a BS in Fish and Wildlife Game Management from OSU in 1962. He worked in construction since 1956, most of that time as heavy equipment operator with 701 Operating Engineers. Jim was a member of the Marion County Mounted Posse and enjoyed hunting bird and game like bear, bobcat, cougar, and pheasants. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vic Underwood; and sister, Virginia Wilson. Jim is survived by his wife, Lola; children Teresa (Tim) McGuire and Michael (Ann) Glenn; grandchildren Colleen McGuire and Ian (Wendy) McGuire; and sister Marcella Forayter. A funeral service with Military Honors will be held on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 1 p.m. at Weddle Funeral Chapel. Private interment to take place at Willamette National Cemetery.

Joe Spenner – Stayton, OR

Joseph “Joe” Francis Spenner passed away peacefully on Christmas Day in Salem at the age of 95. Joe was born on October 23, 1921 in Stayton to Francis and Mary Spenner. 

He was in the first graduating class at St. Boniface High School, Sublimity, OR in 1940.

He lived in the Sublimity area all his life, growing up on the family farm with three brothers William, Benjamin and Vincent.

Joe worked St. Boniface High/grade schools as the custodian/maintenance man for several years.  He then became the custodian/maintenance man when Regis High School opened in 1964.  Joe retired from Regis in 2008 with over 50 years of service to Catholic Schools.

Joe was not only skilled at maintenance, he would also become a mentor for hundreds of students, devising and helping them with various science projects.  Under his guidance, students constructed a wide variety of projects, such as electric cars, a telescope, parabolic reflector, hovercraft, model airplanes, air boat, an electrostatic generator and the list goes on. At his retirement from Regis, Joe said, “I’ll go on here forever. I’ll always be here in spirit, at least.”

In later years, Joe travelled to India several times to assist Catholic priests in building churches and a dispensary.

He was an active volunteer at St. Boniface and at yearly Right to Life rummage sales held at St. Joseph’s in Salem.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and niece Linda Spenner.

He is survived by his nieces Pauline (Alan) MacDougall of Beaverton, Carol Spenner of Sublimity and nephews Mark (Betsy) Spenner of Sammamish, WA and Clem (Doris) Spenner of Salem.

Rosary will be held at 7:00 pm on Thursday January 12th at Regis High School.

A funeral service is scheduled for Friday, January 13th at 2:00 pm at St. Boniface Church in Sublimity with a reception following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to:  Regis High School, St. Boniface Church or Oregon Right to Life.
